Keith’s Mixed Bonspiel – 1 Team Needed

We have room for one more team in the Keith’s Mixed bonspiel which runs from Thur Mar 25th to Sat. Mar 27th.  If you haven’t played in this before, it FUN FUN FUN!!  There are 40 teams and you curl three 6end games and have a light dinner on Friday night followed by a live band; Sat morning you get breakfast and then dinner that night, plus there are a lot of great prizes & Robin Love always puts together a trivia page with pictures of famous people that you have to identify and the members of the winning team each get a prize!  So.....it’s a very social spiel and the only pre-requisite is you must like Labatt’s Keith’s draft!! I’ve attached the entry form – for more info contact either Brian Benning at Brian.Benning@gdcanada.com (cc’d on this e-mail) or Audrey Frey.

Keeler Spiel

Speaking of FUN spiels,  the Keeler Spiel is one you won’t want to miss!  This is a very social one day, men’s bonspiel, (curling experience is not a necessity!) that runs on Easter Saturday, April 3rd.  The cost to entry is only $180.00 per team and you get lunch & dinner, live entertainment & prizes!!  For more info please contact Bob Boland at bboland@tricogroup.com.

Wine Tasting – Wed. March 24th, 7:30pm to 8:30pm

Sommelier Liam Doody, of  Diamond Estates Wines and Spirits and the Algonquin College Sommelier Program, will  present  eight  wines at four tasting stations.   Your goal is to answer a simple true or false question about each pair of wines...can you taste what makes them different?  All the wines will be tasted blind, and each guest will have a chance to comment on each wine.    First person to correctly answer all four questions wins a bottle of icewine!   See if your palate is sharper than your friends!!   The cost is only $20.00 per person.  All proceeds will go to the summer renovation projects.  A sign up sheet is at the bar.  Everyone must register and pay by Mon. March 21st.

Rideau Results

The OCA Intermediate Provincial Championships start tomorrow in Fergus. Representing our club is Team Daryl Smith along with Team Deb Karbashewski of Carleton Place and Team Doug Johnston of Ottawa CC.  The draw and results are on the OCA website at www.ontcurl.com.

Congratulations to Team Tracy Samaan who were the Trophy Regional winners played in Gananoque.  The team will now advance to the Provincial Championship in Kingsville, March 17th – 20th along with Team Jaimee Gardner (Arnprior CC).  Good luck girls!

And the winning continues.....Ling-Yue Hung, Joy Mauthe, Jenn Norris and Marla Weinbergerl played in the Richmond Cash on the weekend and they placed 2nd as the 3 game runner up - it was a points spiel, congrats!

OVCA Ottawa Men’s Bonspiel

Just a reminder there is no league play next week on Tuesday March 16th which is a make up night (still some ice available, the sign up sheet is located on the Wed Mixed draw board); and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night the Ottawa Men’s Bonspiel will be using our ice, with the exception of the 4 Vents league who will curl on Friday, March 19th at 6:00 pm.  The daytime leagues Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will not be affected and will be playing as usual (there is no daytime curling on Monday, March 15th – due to ice maintenance) but the evening leagues will be playing Monday night.

Marking your Score

Please designate one person on your team to mark up your score at the end of your game.

Kitchen

The kitchen is open Monday to Friday from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm. There are new items on the menu and a daily special and daily feature are listed on the white board on the wall to the right of the pro shop window. Below the board you will notice a round table with a chit pad & basket for those of you who would like to pre-order your meal before you curl! Just fill out the chit, including your name and the time you would like your dinner served and leave it in the basket.

Kitchen - Pre-Order Service

Just a reminder that you can pre-order your dinner before you go out onto the ice. There are forms on the small round table directly below the daily specials board. Please make sure to write the date, your name and the time you would like your meal served.

On the Ice

In an effort to reduce the dirt/debris that gets onto the ice, we would ask that everyone use the door closest to sheet 5 to enter and at the end of your game please use the door beside sheet 1 to exit. As well, we would ask that everyone use the boot cleaner at sheet 5 before your game. You will notice that we have sticky mats at each end on the backboards. When you walk over them they pick up any dirt that is on the bottom of your shoes before you step onto the ice, smart idea eh? To help prevent each of us from tracking that dirt out onto the ice, we would ask that when you enter the club, you use the door to the right of the Corporate Friends of the Rideau wall (this door is always open) and head directly downstairs, instead of walking through the double doors, and across the lounge to go downstairs. You may have noticed that we have club rental brooms out on the ice along the wall of sheet 5. These brooms are to be used ONLY by our rental groups. All members are asked to purchase their own broom and we have many different types available in our pro shop!

50/50 Draw

The 50/50 draw is a great way to help raise money for the curling club and at the same time put some money into your pocket. All you have to do is write your name & sign the daily draw sheet and put your loonie into the box. The next morning if your name is pulled you win half of the pot and the other half is put into our capital assessment fund and helps to pay for improvements around the club.

Office Hours

Office hours are 10am to 6pm.

Our new stock has arrived, please come by and check out the selection of pants, shoes, brooms, gloves, mitts, etc that are available. Again, supporting our pro shop helps support the club! Events

If your office is looking for a place to host a seminar, multi-day conference, team building event, let them know that our club is available. If you, or if someone you know is looking for a place to hold their stag & doe, wedding reception, anniversary or birthday party, please pass our name along to them! And, we can also recommend a great photographer, one of our own member's Claudette Bockstael (boxer1@rogers.com). Tell them, we are a downtown location, with a caterer, bar service and the best prices in town!!

Books

You may have noticed some books on the table in the lounge area near the entrance way. We thought we would start a book exchange program amongst our members. The idea is to allow members to take the books they would like to read and replace them with others that can be shared.
